Royal Ontario Museum: “Canadian Modern” (to July 30, 2023)

“Canadian Modern” is a one-gallery exhibition which could have been much more ambitious. Design is what it’s all about, but no word, zilch, about architecture: nothing about city planning, no photographs of buildings, no information about the capital projects optimism of the age. No word of course on Canadian modernist music (all hail Louis Riel the opera) or literature (Helen Weinzweig’s Basic Black with Pearls could have made an appearance). What’s “Canadian modern” without a photo of Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67? Bon ben. What you will see:

Curtains:

Curtain, Sundridge: Geese in Flight Pattern | 1950s. Viscose pebble cloth. Thor Hansen (1903-1976)
