It's not my favourite, however. Engel, oddly enough, manages to write credibly about women's ordinary lives while working pretty exclusively in art-related fields, often as a volunteer.
Yes I wondered how she solved that particular puzzle. She was married for a bit, but to another writer so that probably didn't bring any kind of financial stability (to either party)?
